Ranjana Kumar Smt. Ranjana Kumar is the first woman officer in the Public sector banks to become Chairman and Managing Director. She started her career in the banking sector in 1966 with Bank of India. Later as General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of India?s U.S. operations at New York office, she was responsible for getting a ?Strong Rating? from the US Federal Reserve. In 1999, she was chosen as Executive Director holding concurrent charge as Chairman and Managing Director of Canara Bank. A year later she opted to head Indian Bank, whose survival many doubted. Within three years, Indian Bank made a robust recovery which earned her the sobriquet ?India?s Turnaround Queen? by The Economist. Ranjana has been a guest speaker at prestigious universities and organizations in India and abroad, including Wharton School and Stanford University, U.S. She is a recipient of several awards, including Business Standard?s ?Banker of the Year? Award in 2002. In 2003, she was appointed as Chairperson of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and in 2005 as Vigilance Commissioner, Central Vigilance Commission, Government of India.
